Supporting Melanoma Awareness and Research with the Sorensen Boys
JSG Supply, a proud sponsor of the Sorensen boys, recently participated in the much-anticipated Shoopy Scramble at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda, CA.
This annual charity golf tournament, held on Monday, October 30, 2023, marked its 10th anniversary, continuing its mission to raise awareness and funds for melanoma research and treatment.
A Mission Close to the Heart
Founded in 2013 by two-time malignant melanoma survivor Brett (Shoopy) Shoopman, the Shoopy Scramble has raised over $250,000 to date. These funds have significantly contributed to melanoma research and community outreach, including the purchase of a Canva Vectra 3D Imaging Machine and supporting critical patient services.
Brett Shoopman, the heart and soul behind this initiative, shared, “After surviving melanoma, my mission is to raise awareness about the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and the importance of early detection. The support from events like these makes a real difference.”
How to Detect Melanoma
- A is for asymmetrical shape. Look for moles with irregular shapes, such as two very different-looking halves.
- B is for irregular border. Look for moles with irregular, notched or scalloped borders — characteristics of melanomas.
- C is for changes in color. Look for growths that have many colors or an uneven distribution of color.
- D is for diameter. Look for new growth in a mole larger than 1/4 inch (about 6 millimeters).
- E is for evolving. Look for changes over time, such as a mole that grows in size or that changes color or shape. Moles may also evolve to develop new signs and symptoms, such as new itchiness or bleeding.
JSG Supply and the Sorensen Boys: A Commitment to Giving Back
At the forefront of supporting this noble cause were JSG Supply and the talented Sorensen boys. Their involvement underscored the importance of community participation in charitable events, especially those aimed at fighting life-threatening diseases like melanoma.
“We are honored to be part of this event alongside the Sorensen boys. It’s more than just a tournament; it’s about making a difference in the community and supporting vital melanoma research,” said a spokesperson from JSG Supply.
The Impact of the Tournament
The Shoopy Scramble has been instrumental in offering free skin cancer screenings to nearly 1,000 people, with many requiring follow-up care. Alison Mayer Sachs, Director of Community Outreach & Cancer Support Services at the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center, expressed gratitude for the tournament's contributions, emphasizing its life-saving impact.
Another highlight of the Shoopy Scramble was the thoughtful contribution from Gobatri. Powering up for a great cause, Gobatri provided custom portable power banks adorned with the event's logo, adding a unique touch to the day at Black Gold Golf Club. This gesture not only supported the event's theme but also offered a practical reminder of the collective effort in battling melanoma.
Looking Forward
As JSG Supply looks forward to future involvement in such impactful events, the company remains committed to supporting causes that make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities.
The success of the Shoopy Scramble serves as a testament to what can be achieved when businesses and individuals come together for a greater cause.
